That was a great quali for Lucas, finishing front of Timo is a fantastic result. Well done Lucas! Tomorrow he will start from the 21st place, hopefully everything will go well.
Lucas said: “I’m very happy to be the fastest Virgin Racing driver today. This is my debut year in F1 and I’ve been learning a lot with each Grand Prix. I’ve been getting closer to Timo’s lap times and to be able to keep pace with someone with his ability and experience is a good measure of the progress I feel I am making. Your team-mate is always your easiest comparison but we are not fighting each other - we are working together to make Virgin Racing the best of the new teams. We have a lot of work to do to improve the car and our pace, so while I’m very pleased with the result today, that is where our focus lies.”
On the 1st practice Lucas finished P24, 2nd practice result is P22. We know well these are only practices, so not mean much...the qualifying and the race counts.
Lucas said: “Today was a very good day and we achieved everything that we needed to from our programme. We didn’t experience any major problems, so I’m pleased with the work we have done so far and I’m looking forward to seeing how we can improve for tomorrow.”
Lucas is in Valencia already. They have some new things, but the bigger updates will arrive only to the British GP. But don't forget to take a look at his helmet this weekend. It's the World Cup edition and finally he will use it.
Lucas said: “It’s great to be back in Europe again - and to be back in Spain where the fans are all very supportive. I’ve raced here in GP2 before but I’m really looking forward to my first time out here in an F1 car. I’ve done some work in the simulator to prepare and we have some new parts which should help us in terms of setting the car up. Montreal was a tough race for us but we got there in the end. I hope we have fewer difficulties this time round and we can get the weekend off to a better start and fight for the position of best of the new teams at the end of it.”
After a short break I am back and I brought some news connected to Lucas. He is in South Africa since yesterday and going to watch the Brazil - Ivory Coast football match there. The match will be tomorrow at 20.30 local time.
